International Breweries Launches the Third Edition of the Hero’s Foundation Kickstart Programme

Onitsha: 13, August, 2018: International Breweries PLC is proud to announce the commencement of the 3rd edition of its Hero’s Foundation Kickstart Programme, a Corporate Social Investment initiative aimed at empowering and inspiring budding entrepreneurs in Nigeria.

This year, the foundation is expanding to include more states; young entrepreneurs from Abia, Anambra, Benue, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states can now apply for a chance to participate in the programme.

The Company Secretary / General Counsel of International Breweries Plc, Mr. Muyiwa Ayojimi who addressed journalists during the media launch of the 2018 edition of the Hero’s Foundation Kickstart Programme in Onitsha said, “We launched the programme in 2016 to touch lives and inspire young people especially in the face of economic challenges in the country. Despite the fact that our economy is slowly pulling out of a recession the International Breweries Hero’s Foundation has been able to keep to its promise of making this programme an annual event.”

“We initially kicked off the programme with youths residing in the core south-eastern states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states; in 2017, we expanded our horizon to include Benue, Delta, and Edo states. I am proud to announce that this year we will be expanding further to include Rivers state to the list of participating states.”

Mr. Muyiwa Ayojimi further explained that applications for the 2018 edition of the Hero’s Foundation Kickstart programme are open to youths between 18 and 35 years residing and doing business in the participating states. He said “Successful applicants will undergo a one-week intensive business training session with experts from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Business School after which they will be required to develop and submit their business proposals. A team of judges will sift through the proposals based on their strength and sustainability. The final winners will be announced and given start-up/expansion fund at an award ceremony which will take place later in the year.”

Since the Hero’s Foundation Kickstart programme commenced in 2016, 64 enterprising entrepreneurs in participating states have been empowered with the sum of N132 million, business training, and mentorship to turn their big ideas into sustainable businesses.

Intafact Hero’s Foundation Rewards Budding Entrepreneurs

Onitsha, August 29, 2017: The Intafact Hero’s Foundation Kickstart Programme; a CSI initiative of Intafact Beverages Limited has just concluded its 2nd award ceremony which rewarded 40 budding entrepreneurs’ with the sum of eighty-two million naira.

Now in its second year, the Intafact Hero’s Foundation continues to promote and instil a culture of entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths to enable them reach their full potentials via the intensive training, seed capital and mentoring provided through its Kickstart programme.

Whilst welcoming guests to the award ceremony, the Chairman of Intafact Hero’s Foundation, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha noted that “through Intafact Hero’s Foundation- CSI programme, it has empowered Nigerian youths to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of Nigeria especially as the programme has been expanded to accommodate more states such as Benue, Delta and Edo beyond the five South Eastern States which the programme started with”.

Speaking also at the event, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano encouraged the youths and awardees to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Intafact Hero’s Foundation Kickstart Programme. He posited that “to become a successful entrepreneur, you must be passionate about your craft, resilient and disciplined, especially in the face of the current economic challenges. You must be ready to push ahead with the same strength, focus and vision that brought you to this point, and be ready to always go the extra mile and create value”. Governor Obiano, said his government has always empowered the youth and shall continue to do so while encouraging other companies to emulate Intafact Beverages Ltd.

Regional Director AB InBev and also a Trustee of the Foundation, Godwin Oche said that the Intafact Hero’s Foundation Programme is in line with AB InBev’s desire to deliver on its sustainable development objectives by helping to nurture prosperous and healthy communities. He also called on the successful awardees to use the grants they have received judiciously to grow their businesses. Explaining the programme further, he said: “in order to assist the awardees actualise their dreams, they will be mentored and guided for a period of one year by mentors, seasoned in the field of business and entrepreneurship”.

The awardees who had earlier received rigorous and intensive business training in June 2017 at the Business School of the Nnamdi Azikwe, University, Akwa expressed their gratitude to Intafact Beverages for the opportunity to pursue their dreams, saying the funds would go a long way to setting up and expanding their businesses.

Aluchuru Chukwunonso, one of the recipients’ who got three million naira for his paper production business said he would be eternally grateful to the Intafact Hero’s Foundation for making his lifelong dream to become a reality.

Intafact Hero’s Foundation Awards Holds December 9

The Intafact Hero’s Foundation has announced that it would hold the award ceremony of the 2016 edition of its Kickstart Programme on December 9, 2016. The award ceremony would reward applicants who submitted outstanding and implementable business proposals.The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano will be the special guest of honour at the awards ceremony.

In a statement made in Onitsha, it was stated that the successful applicants would be given seed capital to either start up their proposed business ventures or expand existing ones. These winners would continue to receive mentoring and guidance for a period of one year.

Hero Foundation Shortlists 120 For Training Phase of Kickstart Programme

Onitsha: Tuesday, July 25, 2016

120 applicants out of the over 1,700 that applied for the maiden edition of the SABMiller Hero’s Foundation Kickstart programme have been shortlisted for the training and evaluation phase. The training, which will last for a week, will commence on August 7, 2016.

The programme, which is a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative of Intafact Beverages Limited, is aimed at developing a local culture of entrepreneurship among young people in the South East geopolitical zone of Nigeria and helping them bring their business ideas to reality.

The Corporate Affairs Manager of Intafact Beverages Limited, Mr. Chuma Umunna, who announced this, said a number of criteria including innovativeness, creativity, business expansion, new business/start-up, sustainability amongst others, were considered in shortlisting the applicants.

The initiative was officially launched in March, 2016 with over 1700 applicants the five states in the zone proposing business ideas that span furniture, welding/fabrication, agriculture, video/photography/media, fine and visual arts, event planning, transportation, education, waste management etc.

The 120 applicants were shortlisted by the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, who are managing the training and evaluation phase of the programme on behalf of the SABMiller Hero’s Foundation.

Prof. Alex Ikeme, a renowned teacher, coach and social entrepreneur, will facilitate the training along with the Director of Chike Okoli Foundation Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Prof. Ngozika Anyikwa.

Prof. Ikeme is currently the Provost at the Sinai College of Education and Entrepreneurship Studies and former African Coordinator, International Train to Success Business Project. Also, he was the founding Director, UMM Entrepreneurship Study Centre at University of Mkar, Mkar; founding Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Research, University of Nigeria Nsukka; and founding Director, Entrepreneurship Development Centre, (Central Bank of Nigeria Initiative) South-East Zone.

 

He is also the Founder and CEO, United Aid International – a non-governmental organisation focused on development of a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators.

The modules of the training include Introduction to Entrepreneurship; Generating Business Ideas (Opportunities, Identification and Selection); Marketing Strategies; Financial Strategies; Organisational Strategies; Risk Analysis/Why Businesses Fail; Networking; Coaching and Mentoring and How to write a Winning Business Plan.

After their training, a panel of five seasoned and experienced judges will take the shortlisted applicants through a practical evaluation process.

According to the General Manager, Intafact Beverages Limited, Lukas Daniel Van-Deventer, the main objective of this programme is to ensure that “the teeming youth in the South East with bright business ideas to turn these ideas into reality and this will in turn reduce undergraduate unemployment by engaging them meaningfully through an entrepreneurship programme that will encourage them to bring their dreams to life.”
